Monday 05.09.16 19h00:     Pre-Congress Activity - Opening of the Geo Verbanck exhibition (only with invitation)

Secretariat open: 14h00 - 17h00

Venue:
“Bank van de Arbeid”, Voldersstraat 1, Gent, at the basement (i.e. the former safe room) The exhibition will be open  Mon-Fri - 08h30-12h30 and 13h30-16h30. Sat. 11h00-18h00: Closing day: 30.09.16
 
Tuesday 06.09.16    Registration of the participants at Hotel IBIS Kathedraal, Limburgstraat 2,
(at 100 m from the Belfry)

Wednesday 07.09.16    10h00: opening of the FIDEM congress

Venue: PAC Het Zuid, Woodrow Wilsonplein 2, Gent
14h00 - 17h00: sessions at two venues:
Venue 1: De Wijnaert - HoGent, Geeraard De Duivelstraat 5, (entry via Bisdomplein) Gent
Venue 2: Auditorium Mengal - School of Arts HoGent, Campus Hoogpoort, Hoogpoort, Gent
  13h30: Parallel programme: guided tour (3,5 hours) starting at the Belfry going to the Museum of Fine Arts (MSK) with a visit to the medal collection (a FIDEM exclusivity), the restoration of the Mystic Lamb and the paintings of the Flemish Primitives (max. 25 persons!)
  19h00: opening of the International FIDEM exhibition of contemporary medals, drink

09h00: EXCURSION DAY, (not included in the basic fee) with the choice between two full-day excursions: (Departure at the Bisdomkaai)
 

1)

JAMBES & NAMUR
- Exhibition: Georges Aglane, followed by a lunch
   reception at the Provincial Palace of Namur
   Venue: Tour d’Enhaive – Jambes
- Exhibition: Alphonse Darville and 12 International
   medalists showing the results of the FIDEM
   workshop (Art-Valley 51) in 2015,
   Venue: TreM.a, Namur
- Exhibition: Marian Polonsky, Wivine Vernieuwe,
   Dany Tulkens, Dirk Dekeyzer, Paul Huybrechts, Luc
   De Blick, Fernand Vanderplancke and Linda Verkaaik
   with the “Holland Project” of hanging medals
   Venue: the BUMP (Bibliothèque Universitaire
   Moretus-Plantin)
Free time for dinner (at your own expense) in the old city center before leaving for Gent  (arrival: approx. 22h00)
 
2) GROBBENDONK & ANTWERPEN

 

- Visit of Mauquoy NV, the largest medal factory
   in Belgium
- Exhibition of Alphonse Mauquoy, the most
   romantic medalist
- Exhibition of Laurent Hart, medalist of king Leopold I
- Lunch reception at Mauquoy NV, Grobbendonk
- Experiencing the highlights of Antwerpen.
   The group will be split in two:
o     one group who is interested in modern history will visit the MAS, one of the leading museums in Europe and the Red Star Line museum
o     the second group, with an interest in old history will visit The Rubens House and the Mayer van den Bergh museum (with guide)
Antwerpen was the “European Capital of Culture” in 1992
o     Free time for dinner (own expense) at the Grand Place before leaving for Gent (arrival: approx. 22h00)
 
Friday 09.09.16    09h30 – 16h00: sessions at two venues

Sessions at the Aula of UGent

 
10h00: Parallel programme: guided tour (2 hours) discovering the Geo Verbanck route and the coin route (max. 25 persons!)
 
15h00: FIDEM General Meeting, followed by a closing conference with distinguished guests of the three principal partners in Gent: the Province, HoGent and UGent.
Venue: Aula of UGent, Voldersstraat 9, Gent
 
19h30: Closing Banquet with remittance of prizes, including the Grand FIDEM prize!
Venue: “Oude Vismijn”, Sint-Veerleplein 5, Gent
 
Sunday 11.09.16    POST CONGRESS TOURS

Tour A   

Damme/Brugge, departure: 08h30 from the Bisdomkaai
  A full day activity visiting Damme & Bruges, the “Venice of the North”, boat trip included. Good to know: Bruges was ”The European Capital of Culture” in 2002! Full board!

Tour B   

The Flanders Battlefields: 07h30 from the Bisdomkaai
  A full day activity visiting the Flanders Battlefields with highlights such as Passchendaele, Zonnebeke and Ypres visits and witnessing the Last Post ceremony ! Full board!
